Allegheny County Assessment Update – new assessment numbers delayed for one year

As expected by some, and hoped for by many, Judge Wettick approved the request by the Pittsburgh Public Schools to use the existing 2002 base year numbers for one more year.  This will give property owners a chance to appeal their new assessments before the new numbers are used to calculate their property tax.  The Judge’s ruling applies to all taxing bodies in the county.  Suburban reassessment numbers are still expected to be released in March.

City of Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver residents will have until February 24, 2012 to make formal appeals of their newly assessed values.  Formal appeals hearings should start by February 1, 2012.
